Our Story

About Us

This isn’t just a brand. It’s a story born from pain, purpose, and passion.

‘Three years ago, I lost one of my best friends from high school. A story that never got told the right way — covered up, forgotten by most. I wanted to create a shirt in his honor — not for profit, but to keep his story alive. When I was told people might “get the wrong idea,” something clicked. I realized how powerful clothing can be when it carries meaning. When it represents something real.

That moment truly changed everything.

I realized what I was truly chasing wasn’t profit. It was meaning’

Clothing can speak when words can’t. It can carry a message, a legacy, a mindset.

In the 1990s, Nike had “Just Do It.” That simple phrase inspired an entire generation to chase greatness. At 4 Star Studios, our mission is to do the same — to build a brand that leaves a lasting impact through a message that transcends fashion.

At 4 Star Studios, we know perfection doesn’t exist — but the pursuit of it does.
It’s that chase — the grind, the discipline, the belief that you can always be better —that defines us.

Three years in, this brand has become a 1-of-1 movement. Built on story. Built on soul. Built for the ones who keep striving.

We’re not here to fit in with the industry.
We’re here to change it.

There’s no brand that will make you feel more seen, more connected, or more driven than 4 Star. Every piece is crafted to remind you that progress beats perfection — and that getting 1% better every day adds up to something legendary.

This is more than fashion.
This is a mindset.
This is community.
This is 4 Star.

If you’re not striving for perfection, someone else is.

Our Why

4 Star was never supposed to be just another clothing brand. It started with friendship, loss, and two people trying to find purpose during a time when life suddenly felt a lot different than it used to.

In 2022, Vaughn and I met toward the end of our freshman year of college through mutual friends. I was playing baseball and Vaughn was playing football, so even though we were surrounded by a lot of the same people, our paths rarely crossed. It wasn't until sophomore year that our friendship became something much bigger. That year became the most eye-opening year of my life. Within a three-month span, I lost my best friend, Jalen, and my grandfather. I felt like I had lost a part of myself with them. I couldn't find my rhythm again, and for a while, I didn't really know what moving forward was supposed to look like. But during a time when I needed someone beside me most, Vaughn was there. That's when I realized our friendship wasn't just built around college, sports, or having the same friends. It was the kind of friendship that shows you who someone really is when life gets heavy.

We didn't know it at the time, but some of the hardest moments of my life would become the foundation for everything we were about to build.

We needed something to pour ourselves into. Something positive. Something that gave us a reason to wake up excited about what tomorrow could become. Sitting around the 419 house, Vaughn and I decided we were going to start something of our own. We didn't have investors, fashion connections, or some perfectly mapped-out business plan. We were two college kids with an idea and enough belief to see where it could go. We wanted to start a clothing brand, make pieces we were proud of, and get our friends playing college sports to wear them. That was the original plan. Looking back now, we had no idea how much bigger that idea would become.

Because somewhere along the way, we realized we weren't really building a clothing company. We were building a message.

A shirt is a shirt. A hoodie is a hoodie. Eventually, both will get old. The material will fade, trends will change, and another collection will come along. But what something represents can stay with you forever. We wanted 4 Star to be something you could put on in the morning, catch yourself wearing in the mirror, and remember why you started. Something that reminds you to keep going when life doesn't go according to plan. To keep showing up when nobody is watching. To keep striving when quitting would be easier. Because everybody is chasing something, and behind that chase is a reason. A person. A family. A dream. A loss. A promise. A future. A version of yourself you haven't met yet. That's your why.

And your why is what gives meaning to your STRYVE.

4 Star grew the same way most meaningful things do: slowly, through relationships, trust, and people willing to believe before there was much proof that they should. We'll forever be grateful for the team moms who took a chance on me and trusted us to make three sets of state championship hoodies for my alma mater. To somebody else, that might have simply looked like an order. To us, it meant everything. Those first opportunities taught us a lesson that still defines this company today: before you build a business, you build trust. Before you build customers, you build relationships. And before you try to build something worth millions, you better build something worth believing in.

That's why community has always come first.

As that community grew, so did our team. Ryan had been a close friend of mine through Vaughn. He played offensive line at San José State before transferring to Arizona, and after his football career ended, he reached out about becoming part of what we were building. He had watched 4 Star develop from the beginning. He understood the vision, believed in the message, and saw an opportunity to use his relationships, experience, and ability to connect with people to help take the brand somewhere bigger. We weren't looking to simply add another person to the company. We found someone else who believed in the why. Two became three, and the vision became even bigger.

What started inside the 419 house as a couple of friends trying to figure something out has grown into something we couldn't have imagined when we began. We've watched 4 Star go from an idea between friends to being worn by high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. But some of the moments we're proudest of have nothing to do with stadium lights or who is wearing it. We've seen 4 Star in offices, gyms, job sites, airports, backstage at shows, walking into stadiums and walking out of them. We've seen people wear it while chasing dreams completely different from ours. And that's when we understood what we had really created.

4 Star isn't made for one type of person. It's made for anyone chasing something.

It's for the athlete trying to earn the scholarship. The professional trying to reach the next level. The entrepreneur building something nobody else understands yet. The person clocking in before sunrise. The student trying to change their family's future. The person rebuilding themselves after losing somebody they love. It's for the person who doesn't have everything figured out, but wakes up the next morning and decides to try again anyway.

Different lives. Different goals. Different reasons. The same STRYVE.

The name 4 Star represents that belief at its core. Five stars represents perfection. But perfection doesn't exist. We know we'll never truly reach it, and that's exactly the point. The fact that perfection is unattainable doesn't give us a reason to stop chasing it. It gives us a reason to wake up tomorrow and become better. There will always be another detail to improve, another lesson to learn, another rep to take, another failure to grow from, another opportunity to become better than we were yesterday. That space between four stars and five is where we believe life happens.

Perfection may be unattainable. The pursuit of it isn't.

That's why STRYVE means so much more to us than six letters printed across a piece of clothing. It's the heartbeat of 4 Star. Everyone has a why behind what they do, and when that why is powerful enough, it changes the way you approach everything in front of you. For me, part of that why will always be Jalen. Losing my best friend changed me forever. There was no going backward and becoming the person I was before that loss. I had to learn how to move forward as the person I had become because of it. In many ways, 4 Star became part of that process. Something that started because I needed a reason to keep moving became something we now hope can remind somebody else to do the same.

That's when this stopped being about us.

We don't want someone to buy 4 Star simply because they like a hoodie. We want them to understand what they're putting on. We want someone years from now to pull an old 4 Star piece out of their closet and remember exactly who they were when they wore it, what they were going through, what they were chasing, and why they refused to give up. We want these pieces to become markers of people's journeys.

We're not trying to build something that's relevant for a season. We're building something meant to last. And if we're fortunate enough to build 4 Star into everything we believe it can become, we don't want the legacy to be our names. We want the legacy to be what the name inspired other people to do.

Because someday the stadium lights turn off. Careers end. Jobs change. People come and go. Life happens in ways none of us can predict. But there will always be another person somewhere trying to become something more. There will always be someone fighting through a season nobody else knows about. There will always be another dream worth chasing and another reason to get back up.

That's who we're building this for.

What began with two friends in the 419 house has become a promise to ourselves and to everyone who chooses to wear 4 Star: never become comfortable with where you are when you know there's more inside of you. Never let an impossible standard stop you from pursuing something extraordinary. And never forget the reason you started when the road gets difficult.

We aren't five stars.

We may never be.

But tomorrow, we'll wake up and chase the fifth one anyway.

That's the STRYVE.

Know your why. Trust your STRYVE. Always Strive for the 5th.
